Animal Attendant - New Position

About the role:

A new opportunity exists for a junior animal attendant to join our team on a permanent part-time basis. This role would suit somebody with a genuine passion for animals, and a desire to progress their career in animal health care. 

Full training and support of experienced staff will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic care, including feeding, grooming, and exercise to hospitalised animals.
  • Assist veterinary staff with the handling and restraint of patients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animals, animal enclosures and hospital facilities.
  • Monitor and report changes in the behaviour or condition of animals.
  • Collaborate with veterinary nurses and veterinarians to ensure the smooth operation of daily activities.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Assist with the transportation of animals within the hospital.

Trainee Veterinary Nurse - New Position

About the role:

A new opportunity exists for a Trainee Veterinary Nurse to join our team on a permanent part-time basis. This role would suit somebody with a genuine passion for animals, and a desire to pursue a career in veterinary nursing.

Training and support of experienced staff will be provided.

Responsibilities:

The position requires fulfilling the following duties but not limited to:

  • Providing support to our veterinarians and patients in all aspects of veterinary nursing including surgical prep, anaesthetic monitoring, blood draws, IV catheter placement, running in-house blood, and hospital monitoring
  • Admitting patients for surgical or medical procedures (including emergencies), supporting Vets in clinical examinations, blood collection, catheter and intravenous fluid placement, laboratory testing, and preparing animals for surgical procedures.
  • Assisting Vets to administer anaesthetics and oxygen during operations
  • Support vets in surgery, conducting anaesthetics and monitoring during surgeries
  • Supporting vets in treating medical cases and helping in consults
  • Assisting vets with radiographs & ultrasounds
  • Monitoring observations, instrument cleaning and sterilising, and theatre preparation.
  • Feeding, medicating & providing general care for dogs, cats, pocket pets, birds, exotics & wildlife
  • General reception duties including answering phones, making appointments, taking messages etc
  • Maintaining a high level of cleanliness and organisation around the hospital

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise:

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to training for at least 12 months
  • Adaptability, a positive attitude and strong teamwork skills 
  • A high level of flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to work 4 days a week with approx. 1 in 4 Saturday mornings across two sites
  • Ability to occasionally assist after hours
