VETERINARIAN

Mixed Practice Veterinary Position Available – Full or Part-time

Experienced Vets, New Grads or Recent welcome to apply

Are you the type of person that enjoys coming to work but also loves living their best life outside of clinic walls? Do you enjoy a varied caseload?

It's your time to shine with the team at the Ararat Veterinary Clinic, it's ok not to be perfect and we know that.

We are looking for a mixed practice veterinarian (new grad or experienced) who will enjoy working in a relaxed and flexible environment, being backed by a group of supportive and collaborative veterinarians and someone that is keen to sharpen and further develop their skill set.

We have a particular opening for someone with an interest in surgery or someone with an interest in beef cattle and sheep work.

About Ararat:
Ararat is a great country town with a great country feel - fantastically located at the foot of the Grampians, Western Victoria, just 2 hours from Melbourne for those that need their city fix, 1.5hrs from the stunning coastline, 5 hours from the ski fields, 3 minutes from the closest winery and 3 minutes from the pub.

About the role:

  • Approx 70% small animal, 30% large animal work  (predominantly beef cattle, equine, sheep and the occasional goat/alpaca)
  • Relocation allowance
  • Overseas sponsorship available
  • Generous CPD allowance + gym membership.
  • 1 week conference leave, festival leave or whatever other leave you desire
  • Personal and Professional Development
  • 1 in 8 weekends on call with a triage service, backup and excellent remuneration.
  • 4 Weeks paid annual leave – additional unpaid leave available and encouraged as mutually agreed.

We are a family friendly privately-owned practice (only a few left in the region). We are a team of 5 experienced veterinarians and one recent graduate. The practice has been operating in the area for over 35 years and is rapidly expanding.

Typical large animal work includes preg testing, brucellosis testing, herd health management, lameness, calvings, bull examination and testing, disease investigation, individual animal diagnosis, equine dentistry, colics, wound management and more. No dairy means no late nights and no early mornings.

Typical small animal work includes all the standard procedures as well as plenty of interesting trauma cases and wound repairs, abdominal surgeries, emergency c-sections and orthopaedics.

Our clients are happy to spend money on their pets and we have the option for extensive inhouse work ups as well as referral. There is scope to expand our services and we are happy to purchase any equipment that we do not already have to ensure that the best possible outcomes are achieved. We like to keep up with the latest equipment as well as standards of care.

We are a very laid back and progressive team with professional development and work life balance being an absolute priority. We have partnered with the Lincoln Institute to promote staff well-being and professional development through strong leadership and team culture.

We are passionate about continuing education and industry innovation and love attending conferences – both nationally and internationally.

If you're looking for a great opportunity within a relaxed team in a prime location, we would love to hear from you. Please give Ali a call on 03 5352 1021 for a chat, or send your CV and cover letter to clinic@araratvets.com.au

Some words from our latest recruit:
'Working at Ararat Veterinary Clinic has been fantastic. As a developing vet, I have been encouraged and offered opportunities to further my career here and overseas. The clinic is incredibly supportive, with all the vets always really looking out for each other. Our support staff and nurses are amazing at keeping the wheels turning and are always so organised. It's a fun place to work with plenty of laughs and snacks! After hours is minimal with plenty of support and well rewarded.
Ararat itself is located an easy 2 hours from Melbourne (a $10 train ride!), 5 hours from Adelaide and 30mins from the national heritage listed Grampians, with many fantastic wineries and stunning hikes on our doorstep within 12kms. The town itself has all the usual amenities and pubs, with a great country town community feel' Dr Olivia Cooper.
